Greystones Festival

The Greystones Town Festival is taking place during the August Bank Holiday weekend and, as previous years, we will be out and about with an information stand. The idea behind this is that we can be freely available for anyone wishing to ask us questions about Homeopathy in general or specific to particular health situations.

This year we’ll set up across the road from our office, at the Happy Pear – the renowned home of delicious food and healthy smoothies (see
http://www.thehappypear.ie) . We look forward to seeing you celebrate Greystones during the festival weekend!

Suzi and Tara return from a short trip to India.

We recently had the opportunity to travel to India and broadened our perspective in homeopathic terms. We were invited to visit Dr Farouk Master’s clinic in Mumbai (Bombay), to observe the day to day running of a homeopathic clinic, prescribing and treatment Indian style.

It is quite astounding how many people you can fit into a small room! The patient, the patient’s family, the homeopath taking the case, the student homeopaths, interested homeopaths from aboard (us) and a cat for swinging! It appeared that everyone was talking at the same time and everyone was being heard at the same time. A little overwhelming for someone who was used to the one to one approach of homeopathy!

The clinic was open seven days and treated people with a wide range of conditions from first aid to cancer. There were also many cases of diseases we would not normally see in Ireland such as typhoid and leprosy. There are about twenty homoeopaths attached to this clinic, with usually four or five homeopaths on duty, at any one time so it is an extremely busy clinic.

The consultation takes one to one and a half hours to complete, and all aspects of the patient are taken into consideration, their presenting complaint, their medical history, any recurring illnesses they suffer as well as their diet, lifestyle and emotional wellbeing. A well suited remedy is prescribed on this information and administered at that time.

Visiting the clinic gave us a valuable insight into how homeopathy is applied in India when treating not only minor ailments but also more serious conditions such as leprosy and cancer. It is a very patient orientated system of medicine where the individual is observed and treated. The Indian homeopaths work very much from the heart and this became apparent to us seeing how many people they see in a day and the long hours they work.
